PS3 Firmware 3.01 Live
As promised, Sony has released a new firmware to fix the problems that the 3.0 firmware update caused for many PS3 owners. The update is not a mandatory update and will not kick you off an online session or require you to update your system. This is purely your choice.
Whether this new patch fixes any other problems or adds some new content hasn't been discovered, yet. It's safe to assume it'll only fix the previous freeze problems and glitches that the 3.0 firmware caused three weeks ago. You may want to update just to be on the safe side, but it's up to you.
One of the only new options found is the option to take away the sparkles from the XMB. If you aren't a fan of the sparkles, simply go to the theme menu and choose classic theme. This will take the sparkles off your XMB. Aside from that, everything else looks the same. Update: It seems like this was available in the 3.00 update. Thanks everyone!
It seems there are no new features in this update. After playing through some of Uncharted and clearing a previous freezing point, the game is running smoothly again. Do be sure to check any of your own titles that you had a problem with and see if they are running fine. Other than that, it looks like Sony fixed the 3.00 issues.
